As the 2025 winner of the South Australian Business Chamber Premier’s ‘Not for Profit Business of the Year’, the team at The Hospital Research Foundation Group (THRFG) are united in our mission to improve community health and wellbeing through life-changing medical research and better healthcare.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Communications, the Communications Specialist will oversee the production of high impact content to be shared across THRF Group’s digital and traditional channels.  A central focus of this role is leading the strategic communications for THRFG – Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA).  MESHA delivers research, training and programs that support the mental health and wellbeing of current and former Australian military members, emergency service personnel and their families.

 

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing MESHA’s communications plan, elevating its visibility and reputation, and ensuring seamless integration with broader Group-wide initiatives.

 

What you'll bring to the team:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years demonstrated experience in a communications role or similar, ideally within the NFP, health, defence/emergency services sectors.
  • Proven ability to write and create high-quality content for both print and digital platforms.
  • An ability to think creatively, generate story ideas and gather information via interviews
  • A strong understanding of the local and national media landscape and a proven ability to build relationships and secure proactive coverage.
  • Confidence in engaging with a diverse range of partners, from defence industry leaders and health networks to donors and clients.
  • An interest in military and emergency services health, and a desire to contribute positively to our team culture.
